  • I wanted to post this picture yesterday, and write a wonderful caption of how I am currently having a great time in Djibouti, but I'm not. I feel like I'm supposed to love it here because this is "Africa the motherland" and loving it here is supposed to make me feel "woke". I don't feel 'woke', i feel hot , and not the slay queen kind of hot😂. It's 42 degrees, about the same temperature as dubai and finding a taxi with air conditioning is a luxury, I have yet to find a SIM card to buy because the only place that sells SIM cards has been closed since Thursday, I had to spend 300usd to get an SUV with air conditioning to visit the only major tourist attraction in the country. I would have left but the next flight out of here is on Monday..😓. I love Africa but this stress is just too much! I am going back to Europe! I cannot come and go an kill myself.
Lastly, the bathing water here is salty guys! I had to buy $60 worth of bottled water to use after bathing with their saltwater so I am not salty (both meanings intended). Pray for me.. 😂

  • VISA ON ARRIVAL DESTINATION: DJIBOUTI.
I am currently in Djibouti (that's a picture of me staring at the Red Sea somewhere in Djibouti😁), a small country located in the Horn of Africa. It is one of the few countries Nigerian passport holders can visit without a visa( i.e. Just book your flight and hotel and get on a plane), you can get your visa on arrival at the airport for 90usd. I know this doesn't qualify as a 'pepper dem' country🙄, and the cost of traveling to this little known country is the same as traveling to one of those awesome locations that will make your village people have running stomach😂, I am not saying you should visit Djibouti o, but if you feel inspired to, here are a few pointers. .
.
ABOUT DJIBOUTI.
Continent: Africa
Capital: Djibouti City
Currency: Djiboutian franc (1 Naira= 0.57 Djiboutian Franc, 1usd = 179 Djiboutian franc) .
.

COST ESTIMATE FOR A TRIP TO DJIBOUTI.
1️⃣. Flight: 2 major airlines that fly from Lagos to Djibouti include Ethiopia airline and Kenya airways. Estimated cost for flight is about N300,000. If you live in dubai flight cost is about N100,000 on fly dubai airline. .
2️⃣. Accommodation: You can find hotels for as low as 50usd a night. .
3️⃣. Miscellaneous: 50usd per day to cover feeding, sightseeing and other expenses.
REQUIREMENTS.
1️⃣. Passport.
2️⃣. Flight booking.
3️⃣. Yellow card.
4️⃣. Hotel booking.
WHAT TO DO IN DJIBOUTI.
1️⃣.Visit Lake Assal. (The lowest point in Africa and the second lowest point in the world). 2️⃣. Explore the islands of Moucha and Maskali (swimming, snorkeling etc)
3️⃣. Explore Djibouti City.
4️⃣. Swim in the Red Sea. (The same one from the Bible that Moses parted)
.
.

I am currently exploring Djibouti for the next 3 days. Follow my instastory.
  • DEAR PERVERT IN THE SKY: On a flight from Nairobi to Lagos last year, I had the most disturbing encounter ever. It was like any other day, airport hassle and all😞, I got through all of that and boarded the flight, when I got to my sit, my seat partner was a middle aged man, I smiled and politely said hello and pointed at my sit beside him, he smiled back and only moved his leg for me to squeeze through🙄(my sit was the middle sit and he was on the outer sit). ________

While try to squeeze myself through I felt a hand breeze through my waist😔, since it was for a very brief moment I convinced myself that it was an accident. Few minutes after the flight I felt another touch on my thigh😳 (it was really quick), I looked at the guy beside me, he kept a straight face like he didn't know what happened. So I decided to wait and see if it will happen again🤔. ____________

I felt it again for the third time, I was angry 😡, I simply tapped the guy and said "brother, if any of your body parts touches mine again I will bite you " (I wanted to convey my message with an element of surprise so that he knows that he doesn't have a monopoly on craziness). The shock on his face made my day 😂, then I called a flight attendant to report and also to inform her that there is a high chance I will bite my co-passenger. After that, he requested to have his sit changed. (it's not everyday you find someone willing to take time out of their busy schedule to bite you 😂😂) ___________

If you are ever on a flight and your co-passenger decides to make you uncomfortable, please know that it is okay to put on your savage crown 👑 and make them 10x more uncomfortable ✌🏾.
  • I'm finally back in Male after spending two amazing days at @wmaldives 😁.Planning this trip was a very exciting experience for me, it involved a lot of calculating and maneuvering just to make sure I got the experience I wanted on the budget I had. No matter how high your budget there is always a way for Maldives to take your money 😥😓. ___________

WHAT I'VE LEARNT SO FAR.
1. You don't have to spend the whole holiday on a resort. You can spend some days in Male and some days at a resort.
2. Expensive resort means expensive food😥. 38usd spaghetti, 54usd steak, 15usd pineapple juice 😥. 3. If you are offered water, always ask if it's free before they open it. I ended up paying 15usd for a bottle of water because I assumed it was free. (We are surrounded by the ocean, yet they still want to charge for water🙄) 4. Most resorts will ask for a deposit at check in. (Just to be sure that you won't have to wash plate to pay your debt😂). 5. It's not the best travel destination, if you are single and sensitive 😂, too many couples being romantic and carrying flowers around 😉🙄. _______________
I'm so happy I got enough time to explore Male, to see the other side of the country. The parts that don't make it to the hashtags on Instagram.
  • No deep quotes😏, no travel tips😁, just a typical "pepper dem gang" ✌🏾picture.

  • VISA FREE DESTINATION MALDIVES : You've most likely seen the pictures on the internet😁, and yes it's as beautiful as it looks in the pictures😉. It's also one of the countries you can visit visa free with your Nigerian passport, if you can look past the cost of flight from Nigeria which is about N500,000😳🤔. .
•
•

COST BREAKDOWN.
FLIGHT COST: From N500,000 to as high as you can pay till your pocket start to pinch you 🙄. Turkish airline and Emirates are the cheapest (I don't understand why Etihad is 800k plus). To make the best use of you money combine 2 destinations e.g. Dubai and Maldives on Emirates or Turkey and Maldives on Turkish airline. *The cost stays almost the same if you combine a long stop over of 3-5 days in the stop over country.* .
•
•

ACCOMMODATION: You can find rooms from as low as 22usd (on Airbnb) to private islands as high as 10,000usd per night. (Your bank account will help you make the right decision 😅). Pro tip: When booking a hotel use a card that has no funds in it, it's always better to pay when you get to your destination, also make sure you call to reconfirm your booking.
TIP: If you are on a budget book a hotel in the capital city (Male) and if you will like to visit a resort book a day trip to a resort to explore. Day trips to resort start from 50usd. You can ask the receptionist at your hotel.
For other expenses (feeding, tours etc) budget 50-100usd per day. If you decide to stay in a resort don't forget to visit a local island.
.

•

THINGS TO DO
1. Explore the capital city.
2. Take a day trip to a luxury resort.
3. Take a day trip to a local island.
4. If at any point "money fall on you " take a 15 minutes sea plane ride. (Cost: 1000usd for 15 minutes😂😂) 5. Book a ride on the whale submarine. (Cost: 75usd for 45 minutes)
6. Under water scooter excursion. (Cost: 90usd for 45minutes)
7. Admire the ocean 🙄, it's not everyday you see water that is fine😅.

  • MALDIVES UPDATE: 'It's almost 11pm here, my eyes are lazy and the hat is pointless, but a quick post for y'all' 😊. So I finally landed at Nevela international airport Male, after a long 4 hours 30 minutes. Four hours of flight time is not exactly a long journey except on this flight the passenger beside had mouth odour 😥😓and he yawned approximately every 10 minutes. I didn't think it was possible for someone's mouth to smell so bad😔but this guy made it possible😂. Even with my running nose I could smell it. I kept looking out the window smiling at the clouds just to remind myself that "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". As if that was not bad enough, the on board wifi was priced at 15usd🙄. I decided to use the 4 hours 30 minutes for internet detox😁. •
•
In the spirit of maintaining a positive attitude inspite of my in flight experience, I had to book one night in a hotel close to the airport because the actual resort I booked is 40minutes from the airport by sea plane and there's no sea plane transfer till tomorrow morning.
  • MALDIVES IN A BIT: I spent the week calling embassies/consulates to make to enquiries about visa application, it's funny how it's all those "mama put" countries that require you to have invitation letter (even Armenia wants you to bring invitation letter😂, like sure I have an Armenian friend just waiting to issue me one 🙄). •
•

I finally gave up on getting a Sri Lanka visa and called the embassy to ask if I can pick up my passport😞. I went to the embassy, picked it up, but they told me to leave my application and to keep calling for updates about the status of my application (I'm not sure if I care anymore🤔). Combining 2 countries has always been a cost effective way for me to travel but I have given up Sri Lanka for now, maybe I would visit in the future. (I will write a post soon on visiting two countries and paying the flight cost for one😁). •

After all my visa struggles this week, I finally gave up and booked a flight to Maldives. Yay!!!😁. Booking the flight was the easy part, finding a perfect hotel was not so easy. I've been mentally planning this trip for a month now and I've made a total of 10 hotel bookings as at yesterday, I didn't think it was this possible to be confused about where to stay. And my arrival time (9:40pm) didn't make it easy, since it's quite difficult to get a night transfer to most resorts.
LESSONS LEARNT WHILE PLANNING THIS TRIP AND ALSO FROM MY LAST TRIP TO THE MALDIVES.
1. The price you see on Booking.com is not the actual price you pay, the extras which include cost of transfer, 20-23% tax, 10% service charge etc. The extras will make you question your life choices😂, especially after you find a lovely resort you thought was within your budget.
2. After making your booking call the property to reconfirm, inform them of your arrival time and any other special requirements.
3. Don't make a booking with a debit/credit card that has funds in it. (This is how I was able to book 10 different resorts that have No cancellation policy, I just laughed each time I got an email saying to cancel this booking you have to pay the full fees😂). I'm in my house, oya come and collect the money😜😆. I am mentally counting down😁.
  • VISA FREE DESTINATION IN VIEW: MAURITIUS. (slide to see more)
For me Mauritius is one of those visit once and never go there again type destination😔. And my experience at border control didn't help either, I spent 30 + minutes explaining to the immigration office what I wanted to do in the country. For a minute I almost felt like I was playing 21 questions with the officers, why are you here? Where will you be stay? Why do you live in Dubai? What do you do? 🙄. I was so angry because at some point I was the only person left at border control surrounded by about 7 Indian immigration officials. (Yes! Indian, there's a lot of people there with Indian heritage). .
.

After what seemed like forever they finally stamped my passport, I collected my passport to check the stamp, I saw 7 days boldly written and circled, I could almost see the condescending "just in case your eye is paining you" from the circle. Shoo!!!🙄, just 7days? The last time I had to answer this many questions , I was given admission to study a course for 4 years in the university😂😂. I finally bought a SIM card to call my friend and lament, can you believe this country that looks like a full stop on the map gave me 7 days😳😂. .
.

The ride from the airport to the hotel was about one hour, I was almost grateful to not see any beach/water (I was coming from Seychelles, my eyes don see water taya🙄), I met the warmest staffs at the hotel and my airport pickup was nice enough to stop at the supermarket to get supplies including bottled water(no expensive hotel bottle water needed😏). It's funny how little acts of kindness helps you feel better about negative experiences in a new place. Apart from the airport experience, my stay in Mauritius was perfect. Although for me it's not a place I will visit again.
WHAT TO BRING
1. Passport (obviously😜) 2. Return ticket print out
3. Hotel booking.
4. Yellow card.
5. Light clothing/warm summer clothes.
6. As much patience as you can afford.
Mauritius is a beautiful country but I doubt I will be visiting again. For more on what do in Mauritius and how to plan your vacation visit www.nigerianabroad.me.
